After many years in the motorcycle industry John and Helen Smith decided to open their own motorcycle shop and it was on 1^st October 1984 that their new business opened its doors with the franchise for Suzuki motorcycles.

It all started in relatively miniscale premises in Boshoff Street with a total staff complement of 5. The stay in Boshoff St was shortlived however and a move was made to Berg Str in early 1985. During the 1980's the motorcycle business was in the doldrums but the Motorcycle Centre continued to expand.

In the early 1990's the Honda and Kawasaki franchises were obtained and Rodney Gray and Mervin Koekemoer, who had been a part of the team from the outset, both came on board as partners.
